Try This: 5 of My Favorite Things!
Hi ,
Today I’m sharing a list of five things that make me smile and have had a positive impact on my life.Enjoy!
1. Breaking Points PodcastWe all know the mainstream media can be taxing on our mental health. Whether it's Twitter, Facebook, or traditional television networks, there are so many conflicting headlines out there and it's getting harder and harder to find reliable, fact-checked information. Not to mention, the nature of news media has become so black and white, which fuels divisiveness, tribalism, and polarity. As my friend, Africa Brook, has shared in the past, we’re at a critical point in time for those of us who exist in the gray area (myself included) who crave nuanced and open-minded discussions. Over the past year, I’ve been tuning into Breaking Points with Krystal and Saagar, an independent news network that welcomes nuanced conversation and opposing viewpoints. Krystal and Saagar used to be co-anchors on a show hosted by The Hill but quit to start their own YouTube channel and podcast where people could go for reliable, fact-checked news that wasn’t driven by sensationalism. While the podcast is totally free, I personally decided to sign up as a Premium member to support their mission of covering the gray area in this complicated world, which helps us have more empathy and understanding for our fellow neighbors.2. WeNatalAs my wife, Yasmin, and I enter the life stage of preparing to have kids, one of the things that experts on my podcast have talked about is how important it is for both women AND men to be getting in the right nutrients to support fertility. We used to think that any challenges with fertility were mostly on the women’s side, but now we know that men carry 50 percent of the responsibility and that low sperm count, quality, and motility also affect the likelihood of getting pregnant. That’s why I was super excited when a dear friend of mine told me about her idea to create the first prenatal supplement for women AND men after she and her partner struggled with fertility. It wasn’t until she met with a Functional Medicine doctor that she learned how important it was for both her and her husband to be taking the right supplements. I was so inspired by her story that I became an investor in WeNatal, and my wife and I have been taking their supplements for a few months now to support our reproductive health for our future plans to have kids.
I eat wild-caught salmon two or three times a week, and grass-fed beef about once a week, to ensure I’m getting enough brain-boosting, anti-inflammatory omega-3 fats. But I only buy high-quality, clean animal protein from companies that I can trust. For me, that means they must be environmentally responsible, humanely raise their animals, and value their farmers. That’s why ButcherBox is my go-to for all of my animal protein needs. ButcherBox is the place to shop for wild-caught Alaskan salmon, 100% grass-fed, grass-finished beef, and other ethically sourced meats. And at around $6 per meal, ButcherBox makes sustainably sourced animal protein more accessible than ever. And it gets better! ButcherBox delivers straight to your door, which means I can come home after a busy day and jump right into cooking a delicious healthy meal for my wife and me.You just can’t beat how fresh, easy, and convenient ButcherBox is—and right now, you can stock up on the anti-inflammatory, brain-boosting benefits of omega-3 fats for FREE!ButcherBox is giving my Try This community two pounds of wild-caught Alaskan salmon for free in their first box when you sign up to become a new member.
3. LyteShow ElectrolyteMost electrolyte drinks on the market are loaded with sugar, corn syrup, artificial colors, and fillers, which doesn’t do anything for our hydration and can actually be harmful to our health. Luckily, there are companies out there that are changing the game and making high-quality electrolyte supplements that boost hydration without adding any B.S. ingredients. LyteLine has been my go-to electrolyte brand lately. Their LyteShow Electrolyte Concentrate for Rapid Hydration is made from a balanced blend of sea minerals, contains no added sugar, and gives my brain and body a hydration boost that makes me feel sharp, focused, and energized. I’ll add a serving to a big glass of filtered water first thing in the morning to satisfy my morning hydration challenge (if you don’t know what I’m talking about, click here) or to replenish what I lose after a sauna session or intense workout.4. 52 Questions Before Marriage or Moving In Card DeckTwo people can meet each other, be super attracted to each other, enjoy each other’s company, and still NOT be on the same page about major aspects of life. That’s why I’m so passionate about The Gottman Institute’s 52 Questions Before Marriage or Moving In card deck because it takes the key areas of a partnership—subjects like intimacy, gender roles, social life, work, and money—and asks central questions around them to help couples get on the same page and remove the friction that often gets in the way of love flourishing. Not only did Yasmin and I use this card deck before we got married, but I’ve also given these decks of cards as gifts to friends. That includes people who were in the “serious dating” phase and thinking about moving in with each other and people who had been married for a few years. Even couples who have been together for a long time oftentimes haven’t taken the time or had the right push to talk about the things that put stress on a relationship. Everyone I’ve given this deck of cards to has reported back that they enjoyed the experience, and in some instances, it helped them lean into difficult conversations that they said needed to be had.5. Herbatonin Plant-Based Melatonin Melatonin is most known for its role in helping us fall asleep, but did you know it’s also involved in regulating blood sugar AND acts as a potent antioxidant? Our mitochondria use melatonin to quench free radicals and to protect themselves from damage. Interestingly enough, plants also make and use melatonin to protect their mitochondria from damage. So many people take a melatonin supplement to help them fall asleep and don’t realize that it can be habit forming. That’s why I was super pumped when I found Herbatonin, the very first plant-based melatonin supplement. What I like about Herbatonin is that it comes in a low-dose 0.3mg supplement that’s perfect for mitochondrial health and immune support. They also have a 3mg supplement option that I’ll occasionally take before bed when I really want to sleep hard or if I’m jet lagged and need to catch up on sleep (and because it's natural and super safe, sometimes I’ll even double up and take 6mg). I’ve been taking Herbatonin for three years now and I’m super happy with my experience. That’s it for this week! What did you think of my five things? Want more of these types of newsletters?
